Faustine Dinh, DO
I was a primary care doctor for years before I found my passion in Functional Medicine- a holistic and proactive approach to health and well-being.
I started my career in primary care so that I could contribute more to my patient’s sustaining health. My training and the current medical model involved asking the right questions to efficiently form medical diagnoses that could lead to prescriptive interventions. Unfortunately, I quickly realized that this approach was merely treating symptoms and wasn’t making enough impact for my patients. I found myself asking the questions- What determines health? How do you maintain the integrity of those basic building blocks for health? As my patients continuously returned to seek my help, I found that the current conventional model lacked the foundations for wellness and instead waited for disease to happen.
After growing frustrated with not getting the results I wanted for my patients, I found Functional Medicine and learned the pillars for achieving health. Functional Medicine looks more “upstream” at the complex web of body system interactions and when these body systems are not aligned, that is when disease happens. I applied these lessons and techniques to my patients and witnessed the healing power of treating the root causes of disease.
My focus and passion became even more apparent after I delivered my firstborn son and struggled with chronic pain and severe insomnia. I became a patient, and like many of my patients, I experienced the fear and doubt of what conventional medicine had to offer me. Conventional medicine is crucial and life-saving for acute care and the diagnosis and treatment of illness that is of short duration.. However, for these more complex, nuanced chronic diseases like autoimmune disease, irritable bowel syndrome and chronic fatigue that so many of us experience, my treatment approach had to shift for my patients and for myself.
By using Functional Medicine to regain my own health and personally seeing its healing potential, I decided to leave behind the conventional medical model that can leave both the patient and doctor unsatisfied. My passion led me to open my own Functional Medicine practice to help others find more effective solutions to their health concerns.
